The Role

Ventia are currently seeking an experienced Vehicle Trimmer to join a small team of six trades people working in our deep storage facility at Wallangarra on our defence contract.
As a Vehicle Trimmer with Ventia you will perform all trade related tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of textiles relating to plant and equipment.  This includes duties such as, fabricate, install, repair, replace or modify upholstery, covers and linings of tents, vehicles and equipment. Additionally, you will also regularly work on large heavy industrial canvas fabrics, therefore a fair level of physical fitness is required. 
The successful applicant will work Monday to Friday on 38 hour week permanent basis. 



  • Operate a range of equipment, tools, including hand and power tools, precision measuring tools and equipment.
  • Assist in non-mechanical maintenance and construction tasks as required
  • Contributing to the collaborative innovation by identifying continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Investigate materiel defects and reporting on unsatisfactory materiel, and drafting reports
  • Operating plant and machinery to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining housekeeping of workshop areas.    
  • Conduct all Vehicle Trimmer maintenance tasks, including technical inspection and classification including:
    • Remove old coverings or fittings from equipment and take new measurements
    • Select, measure, and cut out pieces of fabric, canvas, PVC, vinyl or leather using shears or electric cutting tools
    • Sew pieces together using industrial sewing machines
    • Fit trim in plant and equipment
    • Repair and manufacture seat covers
    • Repair tents and canvas covers – large canvas fabric
    • Refit, align and check mechanisms, locks and other interior parts
    • Waterproof and dustproof vehicles and equipment using weather strips and draught sealers
    • Manufacture work according to drawings and sketches.


Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge 
The successful candidate will require:

  • A recognised Trade Certificate III of Proficiency (Vehicle Body – Trimming)
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to inspect and repair damage to motor vehicle trim and other fabric systems
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of handling Hazardous Material. 
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary software necessary to support the position 
  • Current Drivers Licence, car and forklift.  
  • Basic understanding of Computerised Maintenance Management System is desirable.
