Our DNI (Digital Network Infrastructure) group in Nelson is seeking an experienced and highly motivated technician to be part of their team.




This is an exciting new role as you will be working on some new and upcoming projects with high-profile clients within the Power and Telecommunications industry.  


Your main responsibilities will be to install, commission, test, and troubleshoot  Transmission, Cellular and Radio communication systems – cabinets, antennas, antenna systems, microwave radio and fibre transmission systems.


The work will predominantly be within the Nelson / Marlborough region with occasional travel to other depots to provide assistance as required.


Particular strengths required for this role are: team work; self-motivation; ownership of jobs; reporting skills; ability to work alone and under pressure; availability for travel and a good sense of humour.




Experience working on a New Zealand or Australian telco or power network is a must. You will also need to have a clean Class 1 driver’s licence as well as have proof of work rights in NZ.


Other key experience required on the following:

  • Climbing and Rigging (Fall Arrest Systems and Pole Top Rescue)
  • Experience with Huawei, Nokia, Alcatel Lucent, Cisco experience preferable
  • Transmission Testing e.g. Layer 2 & 3 Ethernet
  • Antenna testing e.g. PIM, sweeps etc
  • Feeder and Antenna installation.
  • Tower erection
  • Antenna mount and cable tray installation
  • SCADA and Telemetry Systems


You will also need to be physically fit and comfortable working at heights as there is an expectation to climb.


Flexible working hours are an essential part of the role as telecommunication is deemed to be an essential service in New Zealand. Therefore, participation in weekend and night stand-by rosters may be part of the job requirement. Must be able to travel and work away from home with short notification.  There is a requirement to be part of a standby roster for cellular clients.


The successful candidate shall be motivated and competent to ensure that projects are completed to the clients' satisfaction while meeting or exceeding Broadspectrum’s profitability expectations.  You will need to be hard working and reliable and have good communication skills.
