About the Role:
Reporting into the Divisional SHEQ Manager, the SHEQ Advisor’s role is to develop the Ventia Property line of business operations in line with SHEQ legal requirements with a focus on Principal Contractor management. This is achieved by developing and supporting effective Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) and risk mitigation frameworks within the Property line of business to achieve proactive compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a WHS Due Diligence and Assurance framework aimed to support Principal Contractor engagements
  • Focus on developing Ventia Property operations that are in line with SHEQ legal requirements
  • Develop, review and inform SHEQ Management Plans across the projects
  • Adhere with legislations, regulations and standards and that all activities on the project are undertaken in a safe manner, and with the application of suitable frameworks and documentation
  • Undertake and review investigations in relation to safety related incidents or issues and provide recommendations through the contract leadership team. Engaging with Ventia Divisional SHEQ when appropriate. 
  • Implementing processes to ensure communication and compliance with all SHEQ policies and procedures including fostering a culture of ‘safety and health above all else’ 
  • Deliver on employee rehabilitation, including Return to Work planning engaging as required with Ventia specialists 
  • Ensuring risk assessments and risk registers are maintained and all records are managed in accordance with Company requirements 
  • Ensuring that the Ventia “Critical Risk Protocols” are embedded in the project through Leaders.
  •  Promoting the participation of all people in achieving a safe workplace with zero impact on the environment
  •  Develop and deliver safety related training when required including new starter induction, toolbox talks and prestart meetings
     

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • Tertiary Qualification in Workplace/ Occupation Health and Safety, Environmental or Quality Equivalent
  • Strong experience with contractor management risk and assurance programs 
  • Experience in the Construction industry 
  • Formal training in incident investigation
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Have suitable experience as a safety professional in industrial safety and possess the required technical skills and knowledge to perform the role.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and a positive team culture 
  • Ability to implement and manage a collaborative workplace culture
  • Demonstrated experience in safety / environment / quality or relevant industry role
  • Detailed knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulatory requirements and ISO standards within a utility or infrastructure project environment
  • Ability to develop and execute strategies to ensure compliance, minimise risk and drive continuous improvement.

 

This role is based in Ventia’s Canberra office, however occasional travel to sites across Australia will be required.
